Terms of Service
Sortilège · Norcode Inc.These terms are the agreement between you and Norcode Inc. for using Sortilège and this website. Please read them. By playing the game or using the site, you accept them.
1. Who we are and what this covers
Sortilège (the "Game") and the website at sortilege.io (the "Site") are provided by Norcode Inc., a corporation registered in Ontario, Canada, operating under the trading name Maple Leaf Makers ("we", "us", "our"). These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of the Game and the Site (together, the "Service"). Your privacy is covered separately by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
2. Eligibility
The Service is intended for people aged 16 and over. By using it, you confirm that you are at least 16 years old and able to enter into this agreement. If you are using the Service on behalf of someone else, you confirm you are authorised to do so.
3. Your licence to play
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and play the Game and use the Site for your own non-commercial enjoyment. We keep all rights not expressly granted to you.
Your use of the Game is also subject to the terms of the store you obtained it from (for example Steam, Google Play, or itch.io). If those store terms conflict with these Terms in relation to the download or purchase itself, the store's terms govern that part.
4. What you agree not to do
To keep Sortilège fair and welcoming, you agree not to:
- cheat, exploit bugs for unfair advantage, or use bots, automation, or unauthorised third-party software to alter gameplay;
- disrupt, overload, probe, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to our servers, the matchmaking system, or other players' systems;
- harass, threaten, impersonate, or abuse other players, including through display names, lobby codes, or feedback submissions;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code or assets from the Game, except to the limited extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction;
- copy, distribute, sell, rent, or create derivative works from the Game or its assets without our written permission;
- use the Service to break any applicable law or to infringe anyone's rights.
5. Online play
Online features let you play with others using your platform account identifier (for example your Steam ID). You do not create a separate account with us. You are responsible for conduct that occurs through your platform account while using the Service. We may limit, suspend, or end your access to online features if you breach these Terms or put the security or fairness of the Service at risk. Online features depend on third-party platforms and networks and may be unavailable, interrupted, or changed at any time.
6. Feedback and submissions
If you send us feedback, bug reports, screenshots, or suggestions, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use them to operate and improve the Game and Site, without obligation or payment to you. Do not send us anything you are not entitled to share, or anything confidential that you expect us to keep secret.
7. Purchases and virtual items
Any purchase of the Game or of in-game items is processed by the store you buy through, under that store's terms and refund policy. In-game items, currencies, cosmetics, and unlocks are licensed to you for use within the Game. They are not your property, have no monetary value, cannot be redeemed for cash, and may change or be discontinued as the Game evolves. We do not handle your payment details; the store does.
8. Our intellectual property
The Game and Site, including their code, art, dice, characters, music, text, the name "Sortilège", and the Maple Leaf Makers and Norcode marks, are owned by Norcode Inc. or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of those rights to you except the limited licence in section 3.
9. Third-party platforms and content
The Service relies on and links to third parties, including Steam, Google Play, itch.io, and YouTube. We are not responsible for those services, their content, or their terms. Your use of them is governed by their own agreements.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that defects will be corrected. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Norcode Inc. and its directors, employees, and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of or inability to use the Service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Game in the twelve months before the claim, or twenty Canadian dollars (CAD 20). Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end your access to the Service, in whole or in part, if you breach these Terms or if we reasonably need to for security, legal, or operational reasons. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will continue to apply.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You agree that the courts located in Ontario, Canada will have jurisdiction over any dispute, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings, or requires a different governing law, in your own jurisdiction.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Game and Site change. When we make a material change, we will revise the effective date below and post the updated Terms at this address. If you continue to use the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms.
